Earthworks' goal is to continue to identify and develop sustainable, forward-thinking opportunities through international ventures,
multi-cultural relationships, and technological and practical project approaches.
Current Project: CORTINA
Cortina Integrated Waste Management, Inc. (“CIWM”) has successfully negotiated a lease with the Cortina Band of Wintun Indians to design, construct and
operate an integrated waste handling facility on 443 acres of the Cortina Rancheria in Colusa County California. The Class III, municipal waste landfill is located
approximately 85 miles north-east of San Francisco and will have an approximate disposal capacity of 12 million cubic yards of waste.
The landfill will encompass approximately 200 acres of the 443 acres leased and increase from an initial 300 tons per day ("TPD") of disposal to 1500 TPD. The initial lease of 25 years, renewable for 25 years, also allows for future material recovery, composting and bio-remediation.
Through lease revenues, tipping-fees, and re-sales into the recycling market, the project will provide long-term revenue to the Cortina Band and enable them to increase funding for education, housing, health care, and other programs needed to improve tribal living conditions. In addition, the project will provide employment opportunities for Cortina Band members.
